I’m a Boston-based cancer doctor and I’ve been writing weekly fact-based-no-blame-no-rumors-all-science-all-the-time essays about Covid-19 since March 2020.

You can read my views on why to get your cold symptoms tested here — or about boosters here — or you can read about vaccines/anti-vaxxers throughout history here

Weather:

More cases are happening many places, very much along the lines of cold weather. If you watch a map of the US over the last few weeks you can almost watch it happen: as the temperature goes down, the numbers go up.

It’s practically like you can hear the summer’s wide-open windows slamming shut and see the viruses getting trapped inside. I agree: not a nice visual.

The other maps that show you where the virus rates are growing are the vaccination and the masking maps.

If you’ve got masking indoors — either via mandates or via local custom — you’ve got less transmission.

If you’ve got high vaccination rates you’ve got less transmission rates overall and definitely less deaths and hospitalizations
